Full of skill or stuffed with knowledge? – Sifu Andreas Tomczak

Sifu Andreas Tomczak, 4. TG WT, on the debate initiated by Grandmaster Kernspecht concerning the value of Chi-Sao in WingTsun ...

My fighting ability has improved

Dear Si-Fu,
I have attended your small group classes with my advanced students a few times, and also had private lessons, and these classes have always been top-notch. I particularly like your "new" teaching method for more effective and usable Chi-Sao in self-defence situations, and specifically in the ritual combat situation. The thought-provoking impulses you have given me have caused me to reconsider and reshape my own training for greater personal effectiveness.
Partly as a result of my teaching activities, I was too concerned with the sections. But the way in which you imparted your ideas and knowledge to me has broken up this rigidified structure and caused me to give more attention to what is fundamental in WT, namely practicality and self-defence. Feedback from my students indicates that in their view, my fighting ability has increased within a short period. My students think this is because I know and use so-called "higher" techniques, but this is not the case! I almost exclusively use simple techniques, but uncompromisingly. Many thanks for the lesson, I am looking forward to the next one.
Your tuition has increased my personal motivation again. I was able to ask all the questions about whatever programme that were unclear to me, and you answered them. But then that has always been the case, and has not changed. That too needs saying.

Best regards
Andreas Tomczak
