“The world of tomorrow, weekly and in understandable form. Natural phenomena, research findings, visions of the future – we provide answers to questions that have always interested you, and show science from its most fascinating side. Complex topics from various areas of science presented in comprehensible form. Entertaining reports taking you to unknown dimensions.“
This is how the educational programme “Aha“ presents itself. On 20.3.2004 it featured a report on the martial arts which was announced as follows:
“Whats it like to feel like Tom Cruise in "The Last Samurai"? The Asian martial arts have always had a magical fascination and attraction. They are also increasingly popular in Austria, and many would love to spend time in an old Chinese monastery learning the art of Kung-Fu. But in fact it is not necessary to travel that far. Not far from Heidelberg lies Langenzell Castle, where students thirsty for more knowledge are able to learn WingTsun Kung-Fu intensively and according to ancient traditions. AHA had a look around the Castle and discovered some amazing things.“
A three-man production team consisting of an editor, cameraman and sound technician spent two days at the WingTsun Academy in Vienna and at the Trainer Academy in Langenzell Castle to collate interesting information and images for the viewers.
While the team were cared for by the national instructor Oliver König, 6th PG WT, in Vienna, they were welcomed by the EWTO press spokesman Andre Karkalis when they visited Langenzell Castle.
The timing for the visit to Langenzell was well chosen, for on that particular day a number of masters and highly-graded national instructors (incl. Sifu Victor Gutierrez, national instructor for Spain and Portugal, Sifu Francesco Gutierrez, Sifu Filippo Cuciuffo, national instructor for Italy, Sifu Peter Maull) were present in order to absolve one of the numerous examination stages for their next master grade with their own teacher, Grandmaster Keith R. Kernspecht.
The WT Practicians immediately agreed to present WingTsun to the film team at a masterly level, with extended demonstrations and interviews. Not surprisingly, the people behind the camera were absolutely delighted when they were presented with an amazing display of WT and Escrima techniques – even the use of the long pole was demonstrated. Perhaps we will see them sweating at one of our seminars some day soon.
